Abhidhamma Studies is one of those books that you can reread every few years to find new depth.

In this work Nyanaponika Thera displays great insight into the many layers  of knowledge that can be found within the first beneficial citta mentioned in the Abhidhamma Piṭaka.

And if you don’t want to read the whole work, the introduction alone is well worth reading.

In the introduction, Nyanaponika Thera writes how the Abhidhamma represents the core of Buddhist philosophy through its analysis and synthesis, namely that reality consists of separate impermanent moments in which there is no underlying self, no ‘I’ (anattā), while there is a cause-effect relationship between these moments that, for example, make meditation and moral behaviour necessary for liberation.

We explain this further in our text A Short Introduction to Abhidhamma.

About the Editors

Since 2017 our Editors have been working hard to give everyone the opportunity to get acquainted with samatha meditation on buddho, a meditation system that has brought so much good to our lives. In addition to propagating this meditation system, we hope to make a valuable contribution to the knowledge of Buddhism and Buddhist meditation, emphasizing clarity, quality and depth in our publications.

While you are here …

… We want to ask you something. This website is made out of love for Buddhism and Buddhist meditation. We strive to make the teachings of the Buddha as clear and correct as possible and to make it accessible to anyone who is interested, without commercial intentions.

You can help us in our effort by giving a donation to the Buddho Foundation. Every amount, small or large, is of great value to us, and it only costs you a minute of your time.

With your support, we can continue to do our part in preserving and protecting the Dhamma.

Thank you so much for your generosity!
